Beginning in law school, Mrs. Kessler began working in criminal defense. She became a law clerk at The Schaffer Firm, helping work on complex criminal appeals. Kaia also helped indigent victims of domestic violence obtain divorces and custody/support orders in the Randall O. Sorrells Legal Clinic at South Texas College of Law. After graduating in December of 2015, Kaia became licensed to practice in May of 2016, following the February Bar Exam. She went to work in criminal law, handling offenses ranging from traffic tickets to Class A misdemeanors in and around Houston, and later jumped on the opportunity to become more involved in felony cases. She has worked all in courts all over Texas and has gained a reputation for being a fierce-but-polite advocate. Since beginning work for Jon Stephenson Law in early 2018, Mrs. Kessler has widened her practice to include general civil litigation, as well as developing her tactics and strategies to take on more DWI cases and up her game in felony criminal proceedings. Kaia is a human rights lawyer at heart and will fight tirelessly to assure her clients are protected and get the best possible outcomes in their cases.
She is a member of the Junior League of Houston and has served 9 years on the Safety Committee of the Houston Livestock and Rodeo. Other community involvement includes volunteer efforts at the Houston Zoo, Children’s Assessment Center, and Texas Children’s Hospital. Kaia is married and the mother of two daughters. Her hobbies are quilting, cooking, pilates, and lots of quality time with her family.
